Presenting the 8 Rules of Information Security

For anyone in the western Washington region, If you are interested in listening to me talk about the 8 Rules of Information Security, and how to use some of the more common open source infosec tools to assist in the deployment of technical safeguards to meet the needs in your security management lifecycle, come see me at Linuxfest NorthWest 2005.

The conference is being held at the Bellingham Technical College on April 30th from 10am to 4pm. I am told I am presenting at 10am in room R12 if you are interested in dropping by.

Hope to see some of you there!

There's some comment spam in that older blog entry...

Some thoughts I head on the weakest link being the value of the entire security system:

- Windows on a house can have stickers on each window saying "protected by XYZ security" even though no such security is in place

- Robber may be deterred by blinking red LED on the dashboard of a car, even though no security system is actually installed

- The darkened security camera plastic "bubbles" in some public places such as malls are apparently often empty. The rational is that the appearance of surveillance causes the same change in behavior as actual surveillance at a much reduced cost.
