Top 10 Threats in 2004 (According to McAfee)

The top 10 malicious threats identified by McAfee AVERT to affect both enterprise and home users worldwide in the 2004 calendar year is an interesting list. In alphabetical order, here are the top threats for 2004:

  • Adware-180
  • Adware-Gator
  • Exploit-ByteVerify
  • Exploit-MhtRedir
  • JS/Noclose
  • W32/Bagle
  • W32/Mydoom
  • W32/Netsky
  • W32/Sasser
  • W32/Sdbot (family including sdbot, gaobot, polybot, spybot)

Interesting list. It is curious in how many are malicious code segments that propagate through known vulnerabilities that could have been patched. Hmmmm... that echoes my previous post doesn't it?
