November 01, 2003Security Benchmark and Scoring ToolToday I found that The Center for Internet Security has released a new version of their Benchmarks and Scoring Tool for Windows 2000 and Windows NT. If you haven't heard of this tool before, its a tool that has compilations of security configuration actions and settings that "harden" Windows 2000 and NT operating systems. It wraps itself above Shavlik's HfNetChk tool and provides "Consensus Baseline Security Settings" for review. The Scoring Tool provides a quick and easy way to evaluate your host systems and compare their level of security against the Benchmarks. Tool reports guide system administrators to harden both new installations and active production systems. The tool is also effective for monitoring systems to assure that security settings continuously conform with the Benchmark. Its a neat tool, and something worth checking out.
