Carinvore DCSNet running over Sprints network

Well, according to an article at Government Computer News the FBI have signed onto Sprint Corp.’s Peerless IP fiber network, which operates independently of the public Internet.

Why? So they can provide secure VPN to over 59 undisclosed locations which are running DCSNet (formally called Carinvore until it was beaten to death in the media) DCSNet’s purpose is surveillance of phone call detail and content traced by law enforcement. It also extends surveillance to e-mail communications.

Big brother is watching. Let the conspiracy theories commence!

Nope. Carnivore was based on a technology known as DCS1000. GCN got it wrong and still hasn't acted on the correction I submitted. The FBI might use DCSNet to share info they got from "watching" your phone or e-mail, but they aren't tapping your communications with DCSNet directly. It's just a VPN. Also, the 59 "undisclosed" locations must be the 58 FBI field offices plus FBI HQ. Besides, after the Carnivore fiasco, do you really thing the FBI would temp fate again by publicly disclosing the new mechanism? If so, why isn't EPIC all over it?
